Great Review of Avril Lavigne’s Show in Bethlehem, PA

August 3, 2008 by Colleen

Avril_Kingston4Here’s a little clip of what John A. Zukowski, a editor for The Express-Times, had to say about Avril Lavigne’s performance at Musikfest in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania on Friday night:

Her combination of retro pop and pop punk may be underrated. The Ramones, Blondie, The Undertones and early Green Day proved bubblegum pop is an essential part of the punk genre. Melodic pop is energetic, direct and the opposite of the oh-so seriousness of much of rock music.

Punk has survived since the 1970s because it morphed into different genres such as hardcore, political punk and pop punk. There’s nothing wrong with catchy bubblegum punk, and Lavigne does it as well as anyone.

Nice! Was anyone at the concert?
