What ever happened to Avril’s original bass player, Mark Spicoluk?

July 16, 2009 by Brittany

You may not even remember him because he was only in the band for just over 3 months.  To refresh your memories Mark London Spicoluk was that cute guy with blond dreads, rockin’ out on his bass on Avril Lavigne’s ‘ first album Let Go. Ringing any bells? Either way, I thought I would track him down to see what he has been up to since leaving the band.

His reasons for leaving are typical. He believed that Avril was getting too big too fast and getting too commercial. This of course is true, but was not the path for this indie soldier. Instead he formed a very successful indie rock label called Underground Operations. Something that I’m pretty stoked about is that he is a member in the band Closet Monsters, a band that I have frequently seen live! Check them out!

I also discovered a really great interview with Mr. Spicoluk where he talks about Underground Operations, his brief stint playing with Avril Lavigne, and on the music industry in general. Enjoy!
