Although reports surfaced a while ago that Avril Lavigne was going to be making an appearance on rapper Lil Wayne’s upcoming rock record titled Rebirth, representatives for Avril are now denying the story.  It was announced this weekend that Rebirth was going to be delayed until July 21, 2009 and every source who wrote about it said that Avril was a confirmed guest on the album.  So what gives?  Why didn’t her reps say anything about this almost 3 months ago when the reports first came out?  Was she on the album and then cut out for some reason?  Or did it just go unnoticed all these months?  Why didn’t Lil Wayne correct them?  The rep for Avril says that the rumors come from an Rolling Stone article that was incorrect.  Does anyone know what’s going on?

Last week, Avril Lavigne appeared at the Race to Erase MS gala, which raised awareness for Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and money for research to help find a cure.  Avril posted a blog post today on her MySpace blog to announce that May is “MS Awareness Month.” Read what Avril has to say below:

Avril Lavigne has been named one of Canada’s 50 Most Beautiful People by Hello magazine.  Country music singer Shania Twain topped the list.  Other Canadian born celebrities who made the list were Kiefer Sutherland (24), Evangeline Lilly (Lost), models Gabriel Aubrey and Linda Evangelista, Ryan Reynolds (Wolverine), Joshua Jackson (Fringe), Kim Cattrall (Sex and the City), Hayden Christiansen (Jumper) and hockey star Sidney Crosby.

We haven’t had a “From the Vault” in a while, so let’s kick off this week with one!  Here’s a performance by young Avril Lavigne from 1994 (age 10).  She’s singing in a Christmas Pageant at her hometown of Napanee, Canada.  So adorable! And to think she’d grow up and become famous only a little over a decade later!

Yesterday, we told you that Avril Lavigne had been named Canadian Ambassador for the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai, China.  Well, Avril has posted a blog about it, explaining what the deal is.  Here’s what she has to say:

Hey Everyone,

On Friday, I was in Vancouver and honored as the Canadian Ambassador for 2010 World Expo, Shanghai, China. It’s really exciting as it’s the first time China has ever hosted World Expo and the theme is “Better City, Better Life”. It’s really cool that over 200 countries and international organizations are coming together at World Expo, Shanghai to create a better future for the world. I’ve played 2 shows in Shanghai. It’s a great city and i look forward to visiting again next year. Avril.

That’s pretty cool to be named ambassador for your native country at just 24 years old!

Avril Lavigne was set to attend the Countdown to the 2010 World Expo on Friday night, where she was named Canadian Ambassador of the 2010 Shanghai World Expo.  The event will take place next year in Shanghai, China and is said to be something that will outdo the extravagance that was the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics!  (Side note: Although it’s not a sports competition, how funny would it be if Avril was sent over do a swim relay or something?!)

Avril was chosen because of her immense popularity in China.  Maybe if she performs next year, she’ll finally do her song “Girlfriend” in Mandarin, like she was rumored to do last year on the Best Damn Tour.

While Lavigne is not scheduled to perform tomorrow night, there will be plenty of other acts.

Avril Lavigne was in her hometown of Napanee, Canada back at the end of February and she paid a visit to her “favourite hometown pizza parlour,” La Pizzeria on February 21.  Avril gave owners Bill and Maria Kosmopoulos and their son Kostas a special gift: a framed momento of her album, The Best Damn Thing.  Apparently only special friends, family, and record company officials get these special, framed comemerative albums, which marks sales of six million CDs, 15 million track downloads, 100 million audio streams and 300 million video streams.  Wow!  That’s a lot of success that Avril’s had!

It’s reported that Avril was in the area to visit friends and family.

Kathy Hilton, mother of Paris and Nicky Hilton, is having a charity auction called “Christmas with the Stars.” The event will be held over the TV (on the Auction Network) and Internet this Saturday, December 20 from 7-11pm EST.  All proceeds will go to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

So why am we telling you?  Because more than 200 items have been donated by celebrities, including an autographed guitar by none other than Avril Lavigne!!!  Other celebrities who donated include the Jonas Brothers (a meet-and-greet!), Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys (a tambourine), Elizabeth Taylor (a necklace), and lots of designer items that were once owned by Nicky and Paris Hilton.

This is the second “Christmas with the Stars” auction.  Last year’s event raised more than $27,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation!
