Avril Lavigne to Perform in the Revived Lilith Fair?

May 1, 2009 by Colleen

Back in 1997-1999, there was an all-female festival that played in North America called the Lilith Fair.  It was created by singer Sarah McLachlan and a few people that I know saw it (I was told by my parents that I was too young to go) all said that it was a lot of fun.  Well, it’s coming back!

In 2010, the Lilith Fair will be doing a two-week tour in Europe.  Although it’s still too early for announcements on who will be playing, McLachlan and Avril Lavigne are names that have been consistently thrown around in speculation.

…Which brings us to our second bit of news: Avril is officially expected to release a brand new album in 2010!  That’s right! New music from Avril is still a year away, but it’s coming!

Returning to Lilith Fair for a moment, previous performers included Sheryl Crow, Jewel, Dixie Chicks, Erykah Badu, and the Indigo Girls.

Rihanna Faces Same Malaysia Concert Controversy As Avril Lavigne Did

January 7, 2009 by Colleen

Remember back in August when Avril Lavigne’s Best Damn Tour concert stop in Malaysia was in danger of being cancelled because protestors thought she was “too sexy”?  WELL!  Rihanna is having the same problem!  According to the same group, the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party, the “Disturbia” singer is “sexier and more dangerous” than Avril!  The 20-year-old performer’s management say that she is “aware of the country’s regulations and the difficulties of doing a show.”

Other performers who have had problems performing in Malaysia include Gwen Stefani and the Pussycat Dolls.  Stefani made what she called a “major sacrifice” by not wearing outfits that showed a lot of skin while the Pussycat Dolls were fined almost $3,000 for going against regulations with their costumes.  Rihanna’s concert is scheduled for February 13 and is already selling a lot of tickets.

TheMonitor.com named Festiva’s Top 5 Area Concerts from 2008 and Avril Lavigne made the cut!  Here’s the list of shows from the Dodge Arena:

TOP 5 ARENA CONCERTS

1. JONAS BROTHERS Feb. 29, 2008 — What other band could draw so many “tweens” to Dodge Arena than The Jonas Brothers? The trio of brothers played to a sea of screaming fans when their Look Me in the Eyes tour stopped in Hidalgo during BorderFest.

2. BRAD PAISLEY WITH JEWEL Oct. 16, 2008 — The Paisley Party tour proved to be the party of the year. Along with Chuck Hicks and pop-turned-country star Jewel, Brad Paisley performed for a full house in October. Paisley played a 2 ½-hour set, proving why he’s one of country’s biggest stars.

3. SANTANA Sept. 23, 2008 — He’s a prolific artist who is known for his impressive guitar skills and he has performed for over 100 million people, worldwide. So when Carlos Santana rolled into the RGV to play, tickets sold fast. The hitmaker entertained fans at Dodge Arena in September.
